Saint-Germain-des-Près has always had a certain kind of charm whose mystery continues to surprise and inspire many an author. The district became the meeting place of the literary and artistic universe in the 17th century.
A large number of artists came to live here: painters such as Delacroix, Ingres or Manet; writers such as Racine, Balzac or Georges Sand; and actors such as Mounet-Sully.
