Take a walk from isle to isle : start from the St Gervais-St Paul district and wander around the little 17th and 18th-century streets before arriving on the Ile St Louis. Then, cross the St Louis bridge that connects the Ile St Louis to its big sister, the Ile de la Cité, where you can admire the magnificence of the Notre Dame cathedral.
Situated on the right bank, between Place de la Bastille and the Halles district, a short walk from the river Seine and the Notre Dame cathedral, the Marais – the only preserved district in historical Paris – features unique architecture that bears witness to the city’s history up to the time of the French Revolution.
With its narrow streets lined with 17th-century manors, this district – which surrounds the Place des Vosges – has managed to hold onto its picturesque charm.
