A hotel calling

In 1837, the Schneider family, a line of master blacksmiths, decided to buy the Verrerie Castle, a former crystal company, and to set up home there.

In 1863, a new building was added to house the factory pharmacy, an activity which was transferred to the Hôtel Dieu hospital in 1894.

The now empty premises became the headquarters of the “Cercles des employés” workers’ organisation, with facilities to practice fencing, pool, as well as a large library.

In 1922, the Cercle was turned into an inn: it welcomed a prestigious clientele and was called “La Petite Verrerie”.

A few words about “Le Creusot”

With a rich industrial past, the Château de la Verrerie houses an Eco-museum as well as the François Bourdon Academy, a centre of industrial archives that retraces the saga of the Schneider dynasty, the family that founded the town.
Since the 1990s, the town has been developing its tourist attractions, with its main asset being the Combes park, where walkers, sportspeople and nature lovers rub shoulders.
From Le Creusot, situated in the centre of southern Burgundy, it is possible to cover a 50-kilometre radius to discover Dijon, Beaune, Chalon sur Saône, the Castle route, and Burgundy wines.
