At the heart of Green Provence

The Basilica of Saint Maximin was founded in 1295 by Charles II, King of Sicily and Count of Provence, to house the relics of Saint Marie Madeleine whose grave was discovered on the premises in 1279.

The Basilica and Convent constitute the finest Gothic building in the South East of France.
Put under the protection of Louis XII at the start of the 16th century, the Convent was given to the Dominicans from the beginning.
